Please support the artists you like by donating to them directly
Following up on my wildly successful post about Netflix/Stremio. This is my current music stack and how you get rid of paid music streaming services.
Please support the artists you like by donating to them directly
Exporting your music
First thing I did was download all my songs from my current streaming service that was Tidal at the time. As a side note, I would move between music services seamlessly using Soundizz. For $4.50 you can move your library between almost any streaming service.
I used Tidal-DL-NG to download all of my music in FLAC
Music Discovery
For music discovery I use a combination of Youtube sparingly and friends.
Music Downloading
Once I find music I like I use SoulSeek with the Nicotine+ client to download the FLAC versions.
metadata
- Quality verification – Fakin the Funk
- Metadata (except Lyrics)- Musicbrainz Picard
- For lyric Files I use LRCGET
Music Streaming Server (optional)
For my music streaming server I use Navidrome on top of CasaOS (Docker frontend) on my Rasberry Pi. I have a Cloudflare Tunnel set up for over the internet streaming . My internet is 20 Mbps up and it streams to my phone if not smoother than Tidal/Spotify/Apple Music at FLAC quality.
I am using the Spotify API to automate album art as I couldn’t get the LastFM one working. For details you can read more here.
My docker compose file can be downloaded here if you want a simplified setup.
For Scrobbling I am logged into LastFM through the Navidrome GUI under Settings-Personal
Music apps
Android – Symfonium -Imagine Poweramp just with more polish and selfhosted server support.A hidden gem.
PC – Supersonic – have had 0 issues with it and been extremely happy with the UI.
Success
You should now have a library of songs you like, that dont get randomly removed or deleted from your account. You can have as much or as little curation as you want
Now that you have some money freed up, please go donate to the artists directly! They get more and you get without the giant cuts from the “services” and you save money. Its a win-win.
