Been a wild couple of weeks. Was having stability issues with my PC. Spent hours going in circles for a Notion+Obsidian alternative. Moved CRM’s for my editing business and drinking way too much coffee.
PC Stability Issues
I was having tons of memory issues in Battlefield 2042, and then started getting more weird BSODs in Windows itself. (Unironically Battlefield 2042 may be the best non-memory test, memory test). After some diagnostics, it was two separate things: one of my RAM sticks went bad, as well as my motherboard’s updated BIOS not handling XMP on the other sticks. This led me to buying 2×32 GB of 3600 MHz RAM instead of the current weirdo config of 8+8 and 16+(-16) 3600 MHz. New sticks run perfectly though I needed to manually set voltage to 1.35 even though XMP should have set that automatically.
I also started to make what I call a new Golden Image. I typically make a debloated Windows install in a VM that becomes my Golden Image. I then use that image for two to three years or so as my base, reverting back to it whenever things go wonky. (I have incremental and differential images as well for fixing smaller issues on a weekly and monthly basis using Macrium Site Manager.) Well, it seemed like now was as good a time as any to go ahead and create that new “Golden Image”. I used NTLite, as always, on a Windows 24H2 IOT LTSC image. I will prob make a bit more of an in-depth article on what my current method is at some point. Let me know if you’re interested in the comments.
We are a few days in, and I think I have worked out most of the kinks, and things seem super stable, thank God.
NOtion+Obsidian Alternative
Spent hours basically going through almost every program on this list. Still haven’t found anything that replaces both well that I also grok, so I have given up for now.
CRM’s
Moved from Sprout Studio to Moxie for my editing business as I needed a client portal and some more features to keep client’s updated on the job. I liked Moxie’s package, but their manifesto really sold me over other CRM’s. I am more and more leaning towards companies that seem to give a shit about their product. Also, their email implementation is significantly better than most CRM’s, albeit BCC was a bit hard to find (epic fail on my part). I am still using Sprout for photography at the moment.
That’s all for now
Ay
