Kaffebox Advent Calendar Day 9

Today is day 9 of the Kaffebox Advent Calendar.
Today we're brewing Tarrazu from Costa Rica.
The variety is a Catui, and it's a washed process.Round, sweet, and elegant, orange and caramel is the flavor profiles.
And this was roasted by Prolog in Denmark.
The recipe is extremely confusing, but what I think it says is 14.5 to 15.5.
It's 250 grams of water, 100 degrees Celsius temperature.
And then it says adjust to the brew time and TDS extraction target.
Brew time should be 220 to 240.
And then it gives TDS and extraction targets, which I don't have a way to measure.
I think the pouring pattern is saying bloom and then one long pour.
But honestly, I have very little understanding of what the heck they're talking about with this recipe. As you can see in the picture.
For this, we went with 15.5 grams of coffee, and I'll probably go to 250 grams of water, just because I find the one pour doesn't extract as much.
We're using 15 clicks on the EQ air.
We ended up going to 260 because I realized we were using boiling water, so it'll push it a drop further.
15.5 to 260.
Total brew time was a bit out of range at 3 minutes.
So we could probably go 2 to 3 clicks coarser.
Let's see how it goes with this.
There's actually a surprising number of fines in this coffee.
It actually looks like it gave me more fines than typical Ethiopia even.
Depending on how this tastes, we might brew it again 3 clicks coarser, if we're not getting what we think the coffee's capable of.
Tasting Notes
The initial aroma of this coffee is very basic.
Just like standard coffee fare.
It's a bit on the sweeter side.
Just chocolatey and caramelly, but nothing of note.
After the first sip, what hits you first is orange, and then just long, drawn out caramel, which sits in your mouth long afterwards.
The body is fantastic on this coffee, though it is a bit of a darker profile than I would like.
I'm wondering if I pushed this to like 1 to 17, and ground a bit coarser, how it would do.
But this is a really, really nice cup of coffee.
This is a very beginner-friendly coffee, I would say.
As described, round and sweet.
That's exactly how I would describe it as well.
Also, for some reason, I forgot to mention the name at the beginning of this.
It's Lorena Jim... Jimenez. Jimenez? Something along those lines is the name of this coffee.
Because the producer's name is Anna Lorena Jimenez.
As I'm finishing up this coffee, it has mostly stayed the same.
Orange up front, caramel, and just very rounded and super sweet.
- Aroma: 2/10
- Acidity: 2/10
- Sweetness: 10/10
- Body: 10/10
- Flavor: 7.5/10
I'm just gonna write down that I did it at 15 clicks, and I should try 18 to see if the orange would push more.
I did go coarser later in the day and it just ended up worse overall, so going to keep the rating to this recipe.
What stands out with this coffee is the extremely sweet and long aftertaste, which you don't typically get on a wash process, at least in my experience.
Great coffee. Probably give it a 7.5 out of 10.
