Kaffebox Advent Calendar Day 3
Kaffebox Advent Calendar Day 3

This is day three of the Coffee Box Advent Calendar. Today we're brewing La Fuente, which is a pink bourbon from Colombia, roasted by Quo Coffee.
It's a washed process. We followed the recipe basically in terms of size, but we sized it down a tiny bit. So it's a 1 to 16.6 ratio, they recommend 18 grams to 300 grams of water at 97 Celsius with a grind size of 700 to 950.
So I set my Q Air to 19 clicks, and we modified it to 16 grams, so that way we could get three cups out of the 50 gram box. We did the recipe of five pours, 30 seconds apart. We did 50 grams for the first pour, and then the second pour was 70 grams, and then 50.50, and then 46.
The drawdown was pretty much spot on, so I think 19 clicks is the correct size for it. We used 97 degrees Celsius water for the first pour, and then it hovered around 95 for the rest of it.

The ground coffee definitely had the lemonade and mango-y flavors in the smell, and the aroma from the cup is similarly lemonade and fruity.
The cup is cooling down a bit as it does the aroma increases.
The mango, red fruits, and lemonade is all there, it's just very punchy and fruity.
Okay, first drink. The initial thing that hits you is the body, it's crazy thick and smooth.
Not sweet, but smooth.
The body is really, really, really thick, especially for a V60.
It's giving me just like Jonathan Gagne-level AeroPress vibes.
Just thick and creamy.
It's quite good.
It's a little bit off of what I typically like.
So that's a 7 out of 10 for flavor.
The aroma I gave a 9 out of 10.
And the acidity and sweetness I'm not sure on yet, but I'm leaning at an 8 out of 10 for both of them currently.
But it's just a really, really, really nice Colombian.
Just like a crème de la crème of washed Colombians.
As I continue drinking it, I think the lemonade-ness of the flavor is what's bothering me. Even though the sweetness and acidity I would consider it quite high, there is just a bit too much lemon on the back end.
I think that's what's bothering me.
But it was an absolutely fantastic Colombian.
And the amount of body it has for a washed is kind of crazy.
Though it usually doesn't go hand in hand I just tend to think of naturals having more body.
But this is insane in terms of body for a V60.

I think a cool comparison to show someone who's getting into coffee would be the...
Uh, first day's Geisha in this one.
Because they're both washed processed. But they're... extremely, extremely different flavor profiles.
But even more so than just flavor.
The mouthfeel and body are just insanely different
Interestingly, the cup stays pretty much the same throughout as it cools.

The thing that stands out with this coffee is the body.
