Today is day number 18 of the Kaffebox Advent Calendar.

Today we are brewing Casa Almeida Barreto, which is a Brazilian, with Gabriel Barreto as the producer. It is a Yellow Catuaí, which is a standard variety, but it is a freaking crazy process.
It is a carbonic macerated natural, September 2024, 1,250 to 1,300 meters above sea level.
And this was roasted by FRUKT.

So yeah, funky processing, very different than yesterday.
The flavor is bold, aromatic, cherry, and banana.

They gave us a 16/250 recipe.
They did a bloom with one pour.
We did our standard two pour.
I did a 65 gram, 35 second bloom, 150, and then 250.
Total brew time was 2 minutes 37.
19 clicks on the Q-air at 94 degrees Celsius.

The aroma we are getting off this is pretty light, actually, but it does have a cherry flavor.
On the initial sip, it is definitely bold.
It is cherry up front and banana in the back, but it is pretty single faceted at the moment.
We are getting super cherry up front with a banana-like aftertaste, but it is almost like the bitterness of banana, which is hard to explain.

So far, it is pretty good, but it is not blowing me away.
We will see as the cup continues.

As we are finishing the cup and as it cools down, we are getting more banana towards the back, but tons and tons of cherry up front.
It is overall a very solid coffee, but nothing crazy.
I guess I just had higher expectations for it based on the processing.

Ratings

  • Aroma: 5 out of 10
  • Acidity: 9 out of 10
  • Sweetness: 9 out of 10
  • Body: 6 out of 10
  • Flavor: 6 out of 10

Overall, I would give this cup probably a 7.5 or an 8.
Let us go 8 out of 10 on this cup.
It was solid, but I thought it would be more special, to be honest.
